Mechanical Design Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking team working on cutting-edge technology in the aerospace and defence sector. This role offers the chance to be involved in the full product lifecycle, from concept through to manufacture while contributing to high-performance, mission-critical engineering solutions. You’ll play a key role in delivering robust, cost-effective designs within a collaborative environment that values innovation, precision, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver innovative and optimised mechanical engineering solutions that meet performance, cost and schedule requirements.
- Work in line with established design and engineering lifecycle processes.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including design, production, and testing to ensure manufacturability and a “right first time” approach.
- Create high-quality 3D models for use in stress, thermal and pressure analyses.
- Produce detailed 2D manufacturing and inspection drawings using CREO, with a focus on sheet metal and machined components.
- Compile and maintain full product drawing packs and technical documentation.
- Develop cost-effective design solutions that align with technical requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
- Contribute to drawing office procedures and support document release and engineering change processes.
Education & Qualifications:
- Degree in a technical or scientific discipline, or equivalent experience, ideally within aerospace or defence-related mechanical design.
- Additional education or membership in a recognised mechanical engineering institution is beneficial.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Proven experience in electro-mechanical packaging.
- Familiarity with thermal modelling, analysis and simulation tools.
- Proficient in 3D and 2D CAD design (preferably CREO).
- Experience using analysis tools for stress and vibration evaluation.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, cost drivers, and best practices for fabrication, sheet metal and machined components.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
